During the summertime I like to get out and ride the bike. Many moons ago road racing was a reason to stay in shape and examine the freewheels of other cyclists. Calgary also has many great places to mountain bike. Mountain biking is as scenic as hiking with the added bonus of downhills and three times as much terrain covered in a day. The most active touring group in Calgary is the Elbow Valley Cycle Club.

The Mini is a sleeper, the engine is upped to 1200 cc’s, disc brakes, lowered and stiffened suspension, mag wheels and racing seat with rollbar. Don’t ask what this cost. The beauty of Mini’s around the world is that nobody can possibly take them seriously, little kids will wave as you drive around. Why else would Mr. Bean drive one? And no, the new BMW Mini is not an acceptable replica. |

A group of us head out every June to catch and release huge rainbow trout in the interior of BC. All of the fishing is from float tubes which gets you right into the fish's element. The good streams around Calgary have all been depleted due to excessive water withdrawal, a world class fly fishing environment destroyed in the span of twenty years. My buddy Guido and I have given up on fishing the Sheep, Highwood, Jumping Pound, Livingston, Fallen Timber and Oldman where 20 years ago the abundance of whitefish and trout was common. Similar fate has come to the lakes in Jasper and Banff. More on fly fishing.
Mr. Cranky, I guess if you've seen this many movies, you start to hate them all.
