Zlog Recording Altimeter

There is another review on Liftzone. Get yours from Hexpert Systems. He provides support on the RC Groups website. Rather than repeat what is in the manual and the review, I want to point out the features that are most useful to me.

Altimeters are useful devices of evaluating the performance of the your sailplanes and with the advent of the electronic recording altimeters in miniature sizes, they have become far more practical and inexpensive. I had a Casio altimeter watch for this purpose back in 1992, but today's altimeters are much more versatile. When someone comes out with a 12 gram recording vario/altimeter, that will be the ultimate, although not permitted for use in contests.

In comparing the available electronic altimeters, what sold me on the Zlog over the LoLo and the RAM are the following features:

The unit is slightly longer than the other altimeters but length is not usually the problem in installation. When trimming out a launch for DLG or winch, the onboard display means that you do not have to download the data to a laptop in order to see what is going on, just check the maximum altitude on the display. For PC software, the vendors all look similar. You can see various flight records in the plane reviews of my web site.

The unit has worked flawlessly since I got it and there is no more estimating height on your flights. Normally I plug the unit into a spare channel on the receiver for power, but I also have a 110 mah Nicd pack to use as a stand alone unit when hiking and cycling. You will have to make a female/female connector to power the unit.
